Overview: LILLE European Summer Program (ESP)

Created in 2001, the LILLE European Summer Program (ESP) is a four-week academic and cultural program where students from around the world get the opportunity to experience French culture firsthand in the heart of Europe and be part of an international, multicultural student community.

LILLE ESP welcomes 200+ students from 20+ countries each summer. They are proud to offer a high-standard academic and social experience: more than 96% of students and staff say the LILLE ESP met or exceeded their expectations.

Summer Program Details

  • The LILLE ESP is designed as a full package program, including a large variety of academic courses, accommodation, meal/transportation passes, extra-curricular activities, and 24/7 personalized assistance.
  • In addition to academics, the LILLE program includes a variety of exciting field trips at no additional cost and various optional trips for an additional fee.

Program Dates

  • ESP 1 - May 22 to June 20, 2024
  • ESP 2 - June 26 to July 24, 2024

Deadline to Apply

  • ESP 1 - Deadline to apply is March 24 (Rolling admissions until deadline)
  • ESP 2 - Deadline to apply is April 15 (Rolling admissions until deadline)

Eligibility

  • Current CSUCI student at time of application and while abroad.

Application: Two-Step Process

  1. Complete the CSUCI Short-Term Study Abroad: Direct-Enroll Application.
  2. After completing Step 1, a link will be provided to applicants to apply direct to LILLE ESP.

Academic Information

  • Students enroll in two courses during the program (an AM course and a PM course), earning 6 CSU credits. 
  • 20+ courses are offered in Liberal Arts, Business & Communication, Political Science & Law, Health Studies, Sustainability & the Sciences.

  • Most classes are taught in English.
  • Most courses include one or more off-campus site visits, allowing students to experience the "real world" implications and applications of their course material.

Cost

The program cost is approximately $3,400. Program payment is due in full by April 1 for ESP I and May 1 for ESP 2. The cost includes:

  • Tuition for (two) 3-unit courses
  • Course materials
  • Housing 
  • Meal pass for cafeteria with 50 euro credit (can be recharged online at the student’s expense)
  • Monthly pass for use on LILLE transportation system
  • Field trips to Bruges and Brussels
  • 5 group dinners
  • Cultural and social activities
  • Pick-up on arrival day
  • Welcome brunch

The fee does not include roundtrip flight, everyday meals, recreational travel, travel and health insurance (approx. $140), and personal expenses.

Housing

Accommodation is in individual rooms in secure and private student residences, which are easily accessible to campus by walking or by public transit. Depending on availability of rooms, students will either live in Denis Reille, Campuséa, Estudines or Concordia. These residences are operated by university-associated partners, and LILLE’s staff maintains regular contact with them to ensure they are meeting students’ expectations.

ESP generally attempts to place students from the same university in the same residence.

Home to the Université Catholique de Lille since 1875, Lille is a vibrant and dynamic university city at the center of Western Europe. With swift connections to Brussels (35 minutes), Paris (60 minutes), and London (80 minutes), Lille is perfect for students planning to visit and study Europe. And there is always much to see and do in Lille itself – a welcoming, multicultural haven.

  • Paris: 300€
  • Normandy: 300€
  • World War 1 sites: 100€
  • Amiens: 75€
  • Reims: 100€
  • Nausicaa: 100€

Note that these are extra costs, and if you choose to do one or more, it will be added to the original total cost of the program.
