April 12, 2023

Dear Campus Community:

We write to you today to provide an update on the CSU's COVID-19 vaccination policy.

Effective April 6, the systemwide policy has transitioned COVID-19 vaccines from a requirement to a strong recommendation for all CSU students and employees.

The policy has been under review since late Fall, with several key factors playing a role in the decision to transition to a strong recommendation:

  • California’s COVID-19 State of Emergency ending on Feb. 28, 2023;
  • The State of California has discontinued plans to enact a COVID-19 vaccination requirement for public K-12 schools;
  • The FDA has issued new guidance regarding COVID-19 vaccinations, similar to its recommendation for annual influenza vaccines; and
  • The federal COVID-19 Public Health Emergency will end on May 11, 2023.

With this change comes the elimination of vaccine verification requirements and exemption submissions for students and employees.

All current COVID-19 holds on student accounts have been cleared.

Employee bargaining units have been notified of this updated policy and meet and confer processes have concluded.

While additional information will be forthcoming, please know that at this time, COVID-19 testing will continue to be offered during the Spring semester. In addition, you should continue to submit a report if you are having symptoms or have tested positive for COVID-19. Our COVID-19 Case Management team will continue to follow up with individuals to provide information on resources and advise on an isolation timeline. Exposure notifications, response, and isolation continue to still be in place with Cal/OSHA COVID Non-Emergency Standards and the California Public Health Officer Order COVID-19 Disease Control & Prevention effective March 13, 2023.

Our COVID-19 webpages contain the latest information and will be kept up to date to reflect any future changes.

We continue to be grateful to our entire campus community for your efforts to keep each other safe and adjust to the ever-evolving circumstances throughout the last three years of the pandemic.

If you have any questions, please contact the COVID-19 Case Management Team at healthycsuci@csuci.edu or at 805-437-3550.
