Sept. 28, 2020 - Every year on the second Thursday in October, governments, businesses, non-profits and educational institutions across the United States celebrate “Ombuds Day” in recognition of the value ombuds provide to the institutions and stakeholders they serve.
Ombuds Day will be held on Oct. 8 this year and the theme is “Ombuds: Unusual Name. Important Service.”
Since the Ombuds office at CSUCI opened in July 2019, more than 100 individuals and organizations at the University have received help to manage conflict effectively, collaborate equitably, and navigate policy purposefully. The Ombuds Charter captures the essential characteristics of the Ombuds office: confidentiality, independence, impartiality, and informality.
The University Ombuds is an advocate for equity and fair process for all members of the campus community and serves as a safe and confidential conduit to provide information about significant issues— particularly controversial issues that might not otherwise come forward.
Members of the CSUCI campus community, including friends and supporters, are encouraged to become familiar with the ombuds role and to make use of these essential services broadly. Private consultations can be scheduled online. You can also have the University Ombuds provide an overview of services for your team. Requests for a presentation can also be made online.
The University Ombuds also conducts a 30-minute get-together every Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. to explore a different conflict management topic. All are welcome and you can sign up to join at “Coffee and Collaboration with the Ombuds.”
