Jan. 29, 2018 - Have you recently received a job offer via email from a "Dr. Greenfield?"  If you have, delete it immediately.  The Information Security department at CSUCI has recently seen an increase in job offer scams, specifically targeting CSUCI students.

Here are some ways you can spot an employment scam:

  • Message received from an unfamiliar sender
  • If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is
  • Do your research: look online and/or reach out to infosec@csuci.edu to verify the message's authenticity
  • Does the message ask for credentials? Most jobs will require a resume, interview, job application, and more often than not, a background check
  • Job offer requires you to click a link, make a purchase, share personal information

It is important to remember to not share your information until you have verified the legitimacy of a potential employer.  Those who are interested in on-campus employment at CSUCI may access job postings via Dolphin CareerLink.

To report a scam, contact the Information Security department at infosec@csuci.edu.  The Better Business Bureau also utilizes a Scam Tracker, allowing users to report scams at bbb.org/scamtracker
