Any student who submits evidence of satisfactory completion of Basic Training (DD 214 or DD 295) will be granted credit as follows:

  • U.S. Marine Corps recruits will receive 8 semester units
    • 3 units in GE Area E
    • 5 units of free electives
  • U.S. Air Force, Army, and Navy recruits will receive 4 semester units
    • 3 units in GE Area E
    • 1 unit of free electives

The above credit is granted as recommended by the  American Council on Education (ACE) Guide to the Evaluation of Educational Experiences in the Armed Services. As may be found through the above website, students may also earn baccalaureate credit for other military courses completed*. CSU Channel Islands has final discretion regarding how these units will be applied. Refer to document below for more information.

*Note: After transferring to CI, you may need to submit a GE/Graduation Substitution Request Form (located in the Registrar’s Office Forms Library) to request that the course meet a GE or graduation requirement, or meet with the  major advisor  for your declared major or minor to request that the course meet a major or minor requirement. Your major advisor will be able to review your request and submit it to Registrar’s Office on your behalf. The above requests may or may not be granted.
