History of Event:
The event is a celebration for Chicana/o Latina/o graduating seniors. The goal is to acknowledge students and their families' support during the educational journey. It is open to all students; however, the event will be bilingual and will reflect the cultural values of the Raza community. At the event, students will receive recognition alongside two guest (parents or relatives typically). This event primarily celebrates cultural diversity and educational empowerment, which is part of the CI Mission.

Given the historically low college graduation rates nationally for Chicana/o Latina/o students, attaining a higher education is truly something to celebrate. The that CI is a "Hispanic Serving Institution" means that there is a large student population that is Chicana/o Latina/o. In addition, these students are primarily, first generation Chicana/o Latina/o college students. These events create inspiration for our community while acknowledging that there is much work to be done to create equities in education. Most college campuses have a similar graduation celebration already established. this will be the 8th year that ChiLFASA de CI hosts such an event for our students and their families.
