Our Vision Statement

The Center for Community Engagement will strengthen its presence on campus and in the community, becoming the central resource for students, faculty/staff, and community partners involved in community engagement, and becoming a model for the innovative expansion and deepening of service learning and the institutionalization of community engagement.

Our Mission Statement

The Center for Community Engagement supports and promotes high-quality service-learning in local and global communities by cultivating long-term sustainable partnerships that address societal challenges and foster socially responsible civic engagement.

Center for Community Engagement: 2019-2024 Strategic Plan

In spring 2019, the Center for Community Engagement (CCE), along with its Advisory Board members (made up of staff, faculty, students and community partners) embarked on the development of  its 2019-2024 strategic plan that articulates new and focused directions.

The new plan aligns with the campus' Strategic Initiatives 2018-2023 and focuses on institutionalization of all aspects of the service-learning program and stakeholder interests (i.e. strengthening campus service-learning definition and policy, creating a service-learning policy designation, service-learning at the department level, creating opportunities for more faculty leadership and awareness, strengthening community partner voice and leadership, etc.). We firmly believe that the new strategic plan will position the CCE to  be a leader in developing socially-engaged and accountable leaders through institutionalized high-quality service-learning that supports educational excellence and student success and fosters sustainable and equitable campus-community  partnerships that offer transformative opportunities for students, faculty, and local and global communities to create a more just and equitable world for all.

The following represent the highest order goals of the CCE, which we seek to fulfill through a range of objectives. All CCE goals seek to promote Community Engagement in all of its forms by working with all of our stakeholder groups.

STRATEGIC GOAL #1: Continue to expand, sustain and advance an institutional culture of high-quality service-learning for greater educational excellence and student success.

STRATEGIC GOAL #2: Continue advancing student learning and success through high-quality curricular and co-curricular service-learning.

STRATEGIC GOAL #3: Assist faculty and programs in assuring educational excellence through the expansion of high-quality service-learning.

STRATEGIC GOAL # 4 - Continue to strengthen the capacity of community partners and more fully integrate them to build a more thriving and equitable community.
