The Health Corps members will intern in the public health sector with a local non-profit in the areas of advocacy, research and/or community education and outreach. These internships are dependent upon the needs of the participating community organization.

Applicants must:

  • be a current CSUCI undergraduate student
  • make a one-year commitment & serve a maximum of 100 hours
  • have reliable transportation to off-campus sites
  • Pay rate: $18.00 an hour

MEET THE 2023-24 HEALTH CORPS MEMBERS

  • Julia Mendez portrait

    Julia Mendez

    Julia is a senior, majoring in Biology and minoring in Chemistry. She will be assisting with patient data at Westminster Free Clinic. After graduation, Julia plans to attend graduate school to become a pediatric nurse practitioner. Her role in the Health Corps will help her improve her skills to help the community.
  • Simone Lacey

    Simone Lacey

    Simone Lacey is a sophomore, majoring in Pre-Nursing. She chose to attend CSUCI because it was a familiar place to her and her family. Her father, Dr. Ontario Lacey, graduated from CI in 2010 with a B.S. in Chemistry. She is interested in this position because of the direct involvement with the community, specifically that she would be working with people who need health care resources. After graduation, Simone plans to become a Nurse Practitioner and work in cardiology. She will be providing charting and community health services for clients receiving horticulture therapy at Growing Works/Turning Point Foundation.

  • Hailey Martinez

    Hailey Martinez

    Hailey Martinez is a first year, majoring in Pre-Nursing. She was attracted to this position because of the opportunity to engage in the community. She believes it’s important to be involved in the community and support mutually beneficial relationships. After graduation, Hailey plans to work as a Registered Nurse in Oncology. Hailey will be serving at the Oxnard Performing Arts Center.
