Led by the Center for Community Engagement and supported by the Amgen Foundation and Southern California Edison, the STEM Corps provides tutoring and enrichment activities focused on supporting K-12 student learning in math and sciences. CSUCI students with a strong STEM and/or Education background will work up to 3 hours per week at a community partner site(s) to support the development of STEM skills, learning and curiosity. The specific STEM activities will be developed in collaboration with the community partner and may include:

  • engaging in STEM experiments
  • engaging in STEM academic activities with selected students either one-on-one or with small groups
  • developing specific STEM skills
  • tutoring in STEM homework
  • building creative STEM activities to do at home

Community Partner locations you may be placed:

Applicants must:

  • be a current CSUCI undergraduate student
  • maintain a 3.0 GPA
  • have a strong science and/or math skills
  • ability to work well with children
  • available afternoon or early evening for some locations
  • support the CSUCI STEAM Carnival on Sat, March 9, 2024
  • serve 3 hours per week (100 hours maximum)
  • make a one-year commitment
  • have reliable transportation to off-campus sites
  • Pay rate: $18.00

  • Chaitali Vadgama

    Chaitali Vadgama

    Chaitali Vadgama is a graduate student in the Biotechnology & Bioinformatics program. She believes there are several important reasons to be involved in the community, including social cohesion, civic education, empowerment, cultural enrichment, quality of life, and more. After graduation, Chaitali plans to apply to a PhD program. After graduation, Chaitali plans to work in research in the biotech field, perhaps for Amgen, Takeda Pharmaceuticals, or NASA. Chaitali will be serving at the Boys & Girls Club Camarillo.

  • Chelsea Mendez

    Chelsea Mendez

    Chelsea is a sophomore, majoring in Health Science and minoring in Chicana/o Studies. She is interested in this position because she is passionate about working with kids. Teaching them about STEM is a plus! After graduation, Chelsea plans to attend medical school and would like to become a pediatrician. Chelsea will be serving at SEEAG.

  • Karla Leonard

    Karla Leonard

    Karla Leonard is a senior, majoring in Biology and minoring in Chemistry. She is interested in this position because it gives the opportunity to provide personalized learned and enhance her knowledge of different student learning styles. She believes being involved in diverse communities promotes learning different perspectives and ideas. After graduation, Karla plans to attend medical school and would like to become a pediatrician. Karla will be serving at CEDC’s Villa Cesar Chavez.

  • Pooja Darji

    Pooja Darji

    Pooja Darji is a graduate student in the Biotechnology & Bioinformatics program. She is interested in the opportunity to teach students STEM with experiments. She believes there are several reasons it’s important to be involved in the community, including fostering a sense of belonging, building social connections, personal growth, and understanding diverse perspectives. After graduation, Pooja will be serving at the Boys & Girls Club Camarillo.

  • Stephannie Banahene

    Stephannie Banahene

    Stephannie Banahene is a graduate student in the Biotechnology & Bioinformatics program. She is interested in this position because she loves to teach and feels it is the best way to share knowledge with the next generation. She believes it’s important to be involved with your community because it makes space for connections between different generations, allowing the transfer of knowledge, values, and traditions. After graduation, Stephannie plans to work at a biopharmaceutical company like Amgen. Stephannie will be serving at the Boys & Girls Club Camarillo.
