Street Store Project Clothing Collection – Oct. 12-Nov. 16
A group of CI Communication students will collect and provide donated new and gently used clothing and shoes for children and homeless from an underserved Oxnard neighborhood. The Street Store Project aims to provide this population with a dignified way for them to shop for new clothing and shoes in a store environment where they feel comfortable and at home.
From Oct. 12 through Nov. 16, clothing or shoe donations can be dropped off in the Ojai Hall lobby Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
In collaboration with the Center for Community Engagement and B.A. Huggins Ministry, the Street Store project will make available the clothing and shoe donations on Nov. 18 to the children and homeless.

Science Carnival – Oct. 24
Pre-K through 8th grade students and their families are invited to attend the annual Science Carnival, on Saturday, Oct. 24 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Thurgood Marshall School in Oxnard.
The Science Carnival is a spooky science/Halloween-themed event that is designed to give kids a hands-on experience with science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Over 75 science activities and demonstrations are available to experiment with. Kids are encouraged to wear their costumes! The event and parking are free. Campus Reading Celebration – Oct. 29
The campus community and public is invited to participate in the annual Campus Reading Celebration to share in a common intellectual experience. The book selected for this year is “We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves,” a novel by Karen Joy Fowler. The highlight of the Celebration will be a presentation by the author on Thursday, Oct. 29, from 6-7:30 p.m. in the Grand Salon.
CI students, faculty and staff may attend the event for free. Non-CI students with ID are $5 and members of the community are $10.

Spooktacular Charitable Campaign Kick-off – Oct. 30
CI faculty and staff are invited to the annual Spooktacular Charitable Campaign Kick-Off on Friday, Oct. 30. The event will be held from 12-1:30 p.m. in the Grand Salon with wicked finger foods and witches’ brew to be served!
Participation in the decorating and costume contests is encouraged. Awards for the Department Decorating contest include: scariest, most creative, most humorous, best department newbie, and best performance. Awards for most creative and most humorous costume will also be given.

Day of the Dead: Celebration of Life – Nov. 2
Join the annual campus celebration of Day of the Dead: Celebration of Life on Monday, Nov. 2 at the John Spoor Broome Library Plaza from 4-6 p.m. “Día de los Muertos” is a Mexican celebration that commemorates family and friends who have died.
The event highlights the importance of celebrating the dead after they have deceased and celebrate their lives. Throughout the event several topics are addressed such as why it is celebrated, where it originated from and why it is such an important day for several countries such as Mexico and the United States.
Mexican artist, Isabel Martínez, will create a Mixteco-styled sand mural using seven tons of sand. The community and campus are invited to participate in the creation of the mural to celebrate the life of loved ones throughout the day from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 2. The exhibition will remain on display at the Library until Nov. 15.

Planned Giving Advisory Council Breakfast – Nov. 5
CI’s Planned Giving Advisory Council will be hosting on Thursday, Nov. 5 from 7:30-9 a.m. in the Grand Salon a presentation on the “Global Economic Turbulence and the Impact on U.S. Financial Markets and Policy.” Speakers will include Sung Won Sohn, Director of CI’s Institute for Global Economic Research and Professor of Economics in the MVS School of Business & Economics, and Gary C. Zimmerman, Retired Economist, Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco.
Tickets are $40 for general admission, CI faculty and staff are $20, and CI students are free.
