Project PROMESAS has a number of paid student assistant positions each year.  Priority is given in hiring for these positions to students who

  1. Have had experience working with a diverse and/or under-served population, and
  2. Possess cultural knowledge related to a diverse population and/or under-served population

In order to be eligible for a student assistant position, you must have a minimum of a 2.0 GPA and you must be majoring in STEM. Individual student assistant positions may have added expectations. Due to federal funding restrictions, applicants for student assistant positions must be able to show proof of eligibility to work in the United States.

Student Assistant Position Descriptions 

Specific student assistant positions that are available on the grant include:

STEM Tutors: Students provide tutoring at the STEM Center for STEM courses offered on the CI campus.

STEM Peer-Led Team Learning (PLTL) Leaders: Students in this position are selected by faculty and the STEM Center Coordinator to coordinate small-group learning sessions designed to enhance students' success in a gateway STEM class. Experience as a participant in the PLTL program is required to apply.

STEM Research Assistants--Academic Year: Students are paid to conduct research with a CI STEM faculty member and to present their research at the Sage Faculty-Student Research Forum at the end of the Spring semester.

STEM Research Assistants--Summer Research Institute:  Students are paid for a three week research experience supervised by a CI STEM faculty member.  The Summer Research Institute is held in June of each year.

STEM Outreach Assistants: Students develop and implement STEM outreach activities at K-12 schools and help foster an interest from K-12 students in pursuing STEM as a career.
