Project PROMESAS has a number of paid student positions each year, including Student Assistant and Instructional Student Assistant positions. In order to be eligible a student must be:

  • An undergraduate student
  • Enrolled in at least 6 units of coursework at CI
  • A STEM major
  • In good academic and behavioral standing (not on academic or disciplinary probation) with the university 

Individual positions may have additional eligibility requirements. Also, due to federal funding, applicants for a student position with Project PROMESAS must be able to show proof of eligibility to work in the United States.

Student Assistant Positions

STEM Outreach Assistants

Students develop and implement STEM outreach activities at K-12 schools and help foster an interest from K-12 students in pursuing STEM as a field of study and career. This position requires a minimum cumulative semester GPA of 2.0.

Instructional Student Assistant Positions

STEM Tutors

Students provide tutoring at the STEM Center for STEM courses offered at CI. This position requires a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.

STEM Peer-Led Team Learning (PLTL) Leaders

Students in this position are selected by faculty and the Coordinator of Student Academic Success Services to coordinate small-group learning sessions designed to enhance students' success in a gateway STEM class. 

Additional eligibility requirements: Experience as a participant in the PLTL program and a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.

Peer Academic Success Coach 

The role of the Peer Academic Success Coach (PASC) is to support the academic success of students as well as students’ success in navigating university life outside of the classroom. In this capacity PASCs serve as: student leaders of PROMESAS, liaisons between their faculty partner and students, peer advisors and peer mentors, co-curricular learning community leads, and student support services specialist.

PASCs will be assigned to support a UNIV 100 course section associated with PROMESAS’ STEM Success Integrative Learning Community. PASCs are expected to hold regular peer advising meetings with students, organize and engage students in co-curricular activities and events, and refer students to support services as needed. PASCs will regularly engage in leadership and professional development opportunities to facilitate the development of skills needed to be successful in supporting their faculty partner and students.

This position requires a minimum GPA of 3.0 at the time of application and throughout the term of employment.
