Intramural Sports Volunteer

Our Intramural Sports Program is always in need of extra volunteers to help with promoting, setup/clean up, keeping track of scores/statistics as well as photographing and video-taping all of our wonderful events and activities. We are committed to collaborating with the student body and always appreciate the help and input of the campus community.

Intramural Sports Official

Hours: 5-20 hrs./wk.

Rate: $8.00 - $15.00/Hr.

Position Description

Intramural Sports Official is responsible for providing support to the staff in Campus Recreation, specifically assisting the Intramural Student Supervisor in the daily operation and supervision of Intramural Sport activities. Intramural Sports Officiating is an entry-level position within Intramural Sports. The employee selects which sports he/she wishes to officiate. Hourly pay increases as employee completes training and officiates in multiple sports. Scorekeeping may also be required. No prior experience is necessary. Training sessions provided. Employee’s schedule must fit the needs of the Intramural Sports Program.

Additional Responsibilities:

  1. Attend all required meetings and trainings.
  2. Responsible for working at scheduled times or finding a substitute.
  3. Referee Intramural Sports games.
  4. Enforce all Intramural Sports rules and policies.
  5. Set up the activity area at the beginning of every shift.
  6. Assist the program assistant with checking players’ ID’s and equipment.
  7. Examine the playing surface before every game to ensure safe playing conditions.
  8. Use appropriate signals and mechanics.
  9. Maintain a high level of sportsmanship, and penalize unsporting behavior.
  10. Communicate any problems or concerns to the Intramural Sports Coordinator or Lead Student Supervisor.
  11. Assist the on-site supervisor in giving sportsmanship grades at the end of every game.
  12. Maintain Intramural Sports equipment.
  13. Tear down the activity area at the end of every shift.
  14. Report all injuries, vandalism, equipment needs, or any problems to the Intramural Sports Coordinator.
  15. Responsible for communicating with participants, fellow officials, Campus Rec Assistants, Supervisors, and the Intramural Sports Coordinator in a professional manner to maintain a positive and fun working environment

Job Qualifications

Skills: Thorough knowledge of the Intramurals Sports Guidebook as well as a thorough knowledge of the sports being officiated. Candidates should have the physical ability to keep up with the sports being officiated as well as strong interpersonal skills.

Computer Software Knowledge: PC computers, word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation software (MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Excel).

Experience: Completion of In-House officiating clinic for designated sport.

Intramural Sports Specialist

Hours: 5-20 hrs./wk.

 Job Description

The Intramural Sports Specialist is responsible for all aspects of the Campus Recreation program including but not limited to risk management, policies and procedures, maintenance, equipment, budget, and marketing. Other general responsibilities include:

  1. Responsible for understanding the needs of department
  2. Maintain cleanliness of all facilities and equipment
  3. Running and implementing Captains meetings
  4. Assisting in training and scheduling Officials
  5. Ensure the safety of members and equipment
  6. Enforce all Campus Recreation policies and procedures
  7. Works closely with other entities on Campus to program events collaboratively
  8. Assist with the implementation of all Campus Recreation events as needed

Additional Responsibilities:

  1. Develops policies, procedures and forms for the Intramural Sports program
  2. Develops and enforces and risk management practices of Intramural Sports
  3. Assists in updating website content for Intramural Sports
  4. Develops and implements a comprehensive marketing plan for Intramural Sports
  5. Assists in registering participants, scheduling staff, setting up and taking down event sites, supervising IM staff and evaluating all Intramural Sports programs.
  6. Develops a program brochure
  7. Assists in the development of a comprehensive Intramural Sports employee manual and Student Guidebook

Job Qualifications

1 year experience working within the Campus Recreation program or related field preferred. Successful completion of in-house training program validated by either Coordinator of Campus Recreation. Candidates should have good written and verbal communication skills, ability to perform duties with some supervision, ability to perform general clerical and filing tasks, excellent organization skills, and the ability to work with diverse student populations, as well as faculty and staff and must be American Red Cross First Aid/ CPR certified or able to obtain certification within the first semester of employment. Must be trustworthy and reliable in the handling of confidential materials. Candidates must be current CSU Channel Islands students.
