Steps for Reinstatement

How to be Reinstated  (PDF, 761K)

  1. Take classes through Open University and community college if applicable.
  2. Raise your GPA to a 2.0; use the CSUCI GPA calculator for assistance.
  3. Recommended to meet with an academic advisor to create a Reinstatement Action Plan. (PDF, 127KB)
  4. Submit a Petition for Reinstatement to the Academic Appeals Board by published deadline.
    • July 1st for fall reinstatement
    • January 3rd for spring reinstatement
  5. Include the following with your Petition for Reinstatement:
    • A letter addressed to the Academic Appeals Board
    • Documentation of hardship or circumstances that led to deficient grades. (if applicable)
    • Transcript(s) if completed coursework at another school (can be unofficial transcript)
    • Letter of recommendation from professor or staff (optional)

Attending Community College

If you cannot afford Open University you can attend your community college in the meantime to raise your overall (cumulative) GPA. Essentially you are trying to show the Appeals Board Committee that you are ready to be successful academically. If you are reinstated you will return on academic notice until you raise your CI GPA back to a 2.0.

Additional Information

Students will be informed on reinstatement decisions by the Academic Appeals Board typically 4-6 weeks after the reinstatement deadline.

Please refer to Registrar Office Reinstatement website for more details on submitting the Petition for Reinstatement.
