BLM: The Chicana/o Latina/o Faculty and Staff Association at CSU Channel Islands grieves and condemns the senseless killings of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and countless other victims of police brutality, racial profiling, institutional racism, and oppression throughout the nation and CSU community.

We are committed to self-reflection, analysis, and eradication of deep-seated anti-blackness in our Chicana/o Latina/o communities as a first step in helping advance the issues of anti-racism and dismantling of systematic oppression.

We stand in solidarity with and join the growing demands for justice, specifically calling on California State University leadership to divest from militarized and armed police and security across all its campuses. Instead, prioritize and commit to institutional financial long-term investment in hiring and retention of BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) faculty, student and faculty resource centers for racially minoritized communities, and mandating anti-racism training for all campus personnel including police and security. We also call for the support of Ethnic Studies programs at CSUCI (Africana/African American Studies, Native American/ Indigenous Studies and Asian/Pacific Islander American Studies) that centers the study of racism, antiracism, white supremacy and other systems of inequality and oppression.

We share in the responsibility to speak out and speak up for change and healing in our communities to ensure a just and equitable society for this and future generations.
