The purpose of Alternative Media accommodations is to provide students with an accessible version of required class materials.
Digital materials provided by DASS are for sole usage of the qualifying student who placed the request. Copying or distributing digital material content provided by DASS, either partially or entirely, is strictly prohibited. Violations will be reported to University officials and/or appropriate legal authorities.

Student Responsibilities
- Activate alternative format accommodations on the DASS Online Portal.
- Students must provide proof of purchase or rental agreements for their textbooks in order to download textbook files from the DASS Online Portal.
- Purchase receipts or rental agreements may be emailed to alternative.media@csuci.edu or uploaded to the DASS Online Portal.
- Once you receive the files from our office, you cannot return your textbooks.
Contact the DASS office if:
- The textbook files are illegible or inaccurate.
- If you have any questions on how to access and download the files.
- Any course instructional materials on Canvas (PDF files, Word documents, Videos, PowerPoints, or free digital textbooks) that are not accessible.
For Book Requests:
- New Students: Once you’ve met with the Alternative Media Specialist and submitted proof of purchase through the DASS Online Portal, we’ll aim to complete your request within 15 business days.
- Returning Students: Requests will be processed once they are entered in the DASS Online Portal and proof of purchase is submitted.
- Important Notes:
- Requests may be completed in parts depending on the book's complexity and when the request was received.
- Alternative media will be provided in PDF or RTF format unless you request a different format.
- Students with alternative media accommodations who are currently enrolled at CSUCI will receive a Kurzweil 3000 account after meeting with the Alternative Media Specialist.
- Recommended or optional textbooks are not provided.
