What is the American Rescue Plan (ARP) - HEERF III Funds? [top]
On March 11, 2021, President Biden signed the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 (ARP) (Pub. L. 117-2). The ARP appropriated approximately $39.6 billion for the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF) and represents the third stream of funding appropriated for HEERF to prevent, prepare for, and respond to the coronavirus. Taken together, the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act) (Pub. L. 116–136), the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2021 (CRRSAA) (Pub. L. 116-260), and the ARP represent HEERF I, HEERF II, and HEERF III, respectively.

The American Rescue Plan (ARP) included additional COVID-19 relief for institutions of higher education. This new COVID stimulus bill included $39.6 billion, available through September 30, 2023, for higher education institutions and students, using the same Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF) model established in the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act.

What is the total amount of HEERF Funding that has been awarded to CSU Channel Islands? [top]
CSUCI has been allocated $20,941,199, in HEERF Student Emergency Aid funding that will go directly to students. Those students who have the greatest financial need will be considered for emergency grant funds first. Students will be awarded grants as long as funds remain available. Funds will be disbursed as quickly as possible in order to provide students with the support they need to continue their educational pursuits.

What is the Student Emergency Grant for Fall 2022? [top]
The Fall 2022 Student Emergency Grants are intended to assist students whose lives and educational pathways have been disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. This funding may be used to assist with expenses related to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and emergency costs that arise, such as: tuition; food; housing; health care (including mental); childcare. 

Who is eligible for the Student Emergency Grant for Fall 2022? [top]
Students must have a 2022-2023 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or a California Dream Act Application (CADAA) on file with CSUCI as of Tuesday, November 15, 2022

Students must be currently matriculated and enrolled in a degree-seeking program for the Fall 2022 semester.

Students must have a 0 EFC (Zero Expected Family Contribution) on their most recent FAFSA or CADAA transaction.

How much will I receive for my Fall 2022 Student Emergency Grant? [top]
Eligible students with a 0 EFC will receive a $600 Fall 2022 Student Emergency Grant.

When will the Fall 2022 Student Emergency Grant funds be available?[top]
The Fall 2022 Student Emergency Grant disbursement date is Friday, November 18, 2022.

If I am awarded a Fall 2022 Student Emergency Grant, what happens next?[top]
All emergency grant funds will be automatically disbursed to your student account.

How will I receive the Fall 2022 Student Emergency Grant? [top]
Refunds will be processed through Student Business Services (SBS). Grant funds will be disbursed directly to you by direct deposit or by paper check and checks will be mailed by USPS to the current mailing address on file.

Once you receive the funds, you can use these funds for emergency costs that arise due to coronavirus, such as tuition, food, housing, health care (including mental health care) or childcare.

Are there enrollment requirements? [top]
Yes. You must be a matriculated degree-seeking student for the Fall 2022 semester. You must be currently enrolled in 1 or more unit(s) in the Fall 2022 semester to be considered eligible.

Will the Fall 2022 Student Emergency Grant affect my financial aid eligibility? [top]
No. Student Emergency Grants do not affect financial aid eligibility and it is a one-time grant that does not need to be repaid. 

Do I have to complete requested verification documents to be eligible? [top]
No. If you were selected for federal, state or institutional verification, you are not required to complete this process to receive the Fall 2022 Student Emergency Grant. 

I’m not meeting Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) for financial aid will I still get a Student Emergency Grant? [top]
Yes. Meeting SAP is not an eligibility requirement for the Fall 2022 Student Emergency Grant.

I’m a Credential/Graduate/PBAC student am I eligible for the Fall 2022 Student Emergency Grant? [top]
Yes. Students matriculated in degree-seeking programs are eligible.

I did not fill out a FAFSA or a CADAA for the 2022-2023 academic year, am I still eligible for the Fall 2022 Student Emergency Grant? [top]
No. You may be eligible to apply for the CI Ekho Your Heart Program. This is a special fund that was established within the CI Foundation and is designed to aid students and employees experiencing a temporary hardship. The program may help with food and/or other necessities during a national and/or state disaster. Awards are granted on a case-by-case basis. Link to Apply

I’m an Open University student am I eligible for a Fall 2022 Student Emergency Grant? [top]
No. You may be eligible to apply for the CI Ekho Your Heart Program.
