Cal State Channel Islands students taking classes during summer semester may be eligible to receive financial aid. Limited funds are available, and the amount you may receive is based on the number of enrolled units, your Student Aid Index (SAI), and remaining eligibility.

Eligibility

Students must be matriculated and in a CI degree-seeking program to be eligible for summer financial aid.

You must:

  • Enroll in courses for the summer term.
The number of units required to be eligible for aid will vary depending on the type of aid you receive.
  • Meet Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) requirements.
  • Have a 2025-2026 FAFSA or CADAA on file.
  • Have remaining aid eligibility for the 2025-2026 aid year.

There is no separate application needed to apply for summer financial aid.

Summer packaging will begin in April. If you are eligible for financial aid, your summer financial aid offer will be available for you to view on your myCI portal. You can view and accept/decline your summer aid in myCI once your offer is available.

Types of Aid Available

Federal Pell Grant

Federal Pell Grants may be available to Undergraduate/Credential students during the summer semester. Grant amounts are based on your SAI, enrollment intensity, and the amount of Federal Pell Grant funds you have already received during the 2025-2026 aid year (including funds received at other institutions).

If you have used 100% of your Pell Grant during the aid year, you must be enrolled in at least one unit to be considered for a Summer Federal Pell Grant.

State University Grant (SUG)

Summer SUG is available to Undergraduate students who meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Meet the general SUG eligibility criteria
  • Must be enrolled in at least one unit for summer
  • Be enrolled in state-support classes for the summer semester

Campus fees are not covered by this grant. You are responsible for paying the balance this grant does not cover.

Federal Direct Loans

If you did not borrow the maximum amount of Federal Direct Loan(s) available during the 2025-2026 aid year and you are enrolled at least half-time (Undergraduate/Credential students = 6+ units, Graduate students = 3+ units), you may be offered Federal Direct Loans during summer. Federal Direct Subsidized and Unsubsidized Loan amounts are based on the remaining annual eligibility you have left over from the aid year.

Private/Alternative Loans

The application of private loans is at the discretion of the student. You can apply for private/alternative loans up to the cost of attendance for the term. However, we urge you to contact the Financial Aid & Scholarships office to discuss other options that may be more favorable.
