California State University Channel Islands’ Semester at CI program allows international students to enroll in regular university credit classes on a “space-available” basis, subject to the approval of the instructor and the Academic Affairs department. Check the CSU Channel Islands Schedule of Classes for class meeting times and locations. The application and registration process is easy. Admission to the University is not required.

We are now accepting new international students for the summer, in addition to our Fall and Spring semesters.

Application Deadlines

  • Spring Semester: December 1
  • Fall Semester: June 1

Fall Program Fee Due

  • The tuition fee for the Fall 2018 semester is due on Friday, August 13, 2018.
    • Submitting the program fee any later could lead to a delay in receiving access to online course materials.

Spring Program Fee Due

  • The tuition fee for the Spring 2018 semester is due on Friday, January 12, 2018.
    • Submitting the program fee any later could lead to a delay in receiving access to online course materials.

Health Insurance Deadline

  • Due on Friday, January 19, 2018 for the Spring 2018 semester.
  • Health insurance must be purchased from the CSU Healthlink.

Fall 2018

  • Start: August 22, 2018
  • End: December 15, 2018
  • Units Required: 12

Spring 2019

  • January 16, 2019
  • End: May 17, 2019
  • Units Required: 12

Tuition Fees

  • Spring 2018: $5,800 (USD) for 12 units
  • Fall 2018: $5,800 (USD) for 12 units

Fees and dates are subject to change without notice. $270 (USD) for each additional unit over the amount listed. Lab fees as assigned.


  • Regular Registration – First two weeks of session
  • Late Registration ($20 late fee applies) –Third week of session
  • Drop (with 65% refund, instructor signature required) – End of 2nd week
  • Late Withdrawal (no refund) – instructor signature required – End of 3rd week


We cannot guarantee a space or assure that you will be permitted to enroll in any class. Instructors are not required to accept Open University students even if space is available.

Open University is NOT available to:

  • Matriculated students (those admitted to a degree program for the current semester)
  • Non-matriculated international students with a score of less than 61 iBT on the TOEFL examination or its equivalent
  • International students on F-1 or J-1 visas without proper authorization
