Please note that the Bachelor's in Mechatronics, Nursing, and the Bachelor's degree programs at the Santa Barbara campus are closed to international students.

International Undergraduate Admission Requirements

 Apply through the Cal Sate Apply website.

Submit all application documents to the International Programs office.

English Proficiency Requirement*

Acceptable English Placement Exams

  • TOEFL – Test of English as a Foreign Language with a minimum Paper-Based score of 500, or a minimum Internet Based score of 61
  • IELTS – International English Language Test System with an overall band score of 6.0

*Freshmen students: It is not necessary to submit a TOEFL or IELTS score if you have attended three years at a high school in the U.S., Canada, Australia, Ireland, New Zealand, United Kingdom, South Africa or other countries on a case-by-case basis.  In some cases and acceptable SAT or ACT score can also meet English proficiency requirements.    

*Transfer students: It is not necessary to submit a TOEFL or IELTS score if you have completed the required Freshman Composition Class at your community college.

Affidavit of Financial Support and Bank Statement

There are three options:

  • Submit the Financial Affidavit for International Undergraduate Applicants (PDF, 232KB).
  • Provide an original letter on the financial institution’s letterhead, signed and dated by the institution’s appropriate officer
  • If the student has a sponsor, a person willing to financially support the student while he or she is studying at CI, the sponsor must submit an original financial statement, as well as the Affidavit of Financial Support.

These financial documents can be scanned and sent to the International Programs office at international@csuci.edu.
