Dear Campus Community:

The Supreme Court's decision yesterday, Feb. 26, to require a full appeal of the legal challenge regarding Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) is encouraging news for Dreamers throughout our academic community.  I remain hopeful that a permanent and positive solution is reached this year.

In the meantime, all eligible students and employees are encouraged to apply for renewalof their DACA protections as soon as possible. Free legal support services are available in our area to assist you with this effort. If you require financial assistance with the renewal fee, the Mission Asset Fund provides interest free loans for various USCIS application fees, including DACA renewal.

Additionally, I encourage students to visit our Undocumented Students ResourcesMulticultural Dream Center or Counseling & Psychological Services. Please take advantage of these resources, which can assist you or someone you know as we work together to support each other. Employees who need support should contact Human Resources or visit the Employee Assistance Program.

Faculty and staff may also learn about our campus Undocumented Student Ally Training Program, as well as reviewing FAQs for CSU Employees about Federal Immigration Enforcement Actions on University Property.

As you have heard me say many times, we will continue to advocate for our Dreamers and will hold steadfast to our fundamental commitment to equity and inclusion. Providing those with DACA status a clear path for the future – to complete their education and build their careers – is indeed a wise decision for California and our nation.

We will continue to call on federal policymakers to stand up for our shared American values of inclusivity, opportunity and excellence – regardless of background or birthplace.

Sincerely,

Erika D. Beck, Ph.D.

President
