Jan. 20, 2022

Dear Dolphins:

With the start of the Spring semester, please know that CSUCI remains steadfast in our commitment to you and your well-being. Recognizing the continued challenges associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, I am pleased to share that the campus will be providing additional financial relief to our students after the start of the Spring semester.

In 2021, President Joe Biden signed the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 (ARP) (Pub. L. 117-2). The ARP appropriated approximately $40 billion for the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF), which represents the third stream of HEERF funding appropriated to prevent, prepare for, and respond to the pandemic. The Rescue Plan includes additional COVID-19 relief for higher education institutions to provide emergency financial relief for student expenses related to disruptions and financial hardships due to the pandemic. Students who meet basic eligibility criteria for federal and state financial aid are eligible to receive these funds.

Students must have a 2021-22 Free Application for Federal Students Aid (FAFSA) or the California Dream Act Application (CADAA) on file to receive money from the ARP Act. Our Financial Aid & Scholarships office will use data from either the 2021-22 FAFSA or CADAA to determine student eligibility. If you do not have a 2021-22 FAFSA or CADAA on file, it is not too late to apply! For the purposes of the ARP Act funding, CSUCI students must have a 2021-22 FAFSA or CADAA on file by Jan. 24, 2022, to be eligible for the emergency grant.

While we hope that the financial assistance provided by the campus will help, we understand that you may have additional needs. Please know that our Basic Needs Program continues to operate and is available for all CSUCI students.

For questions regarding the relief and support outlined above, please visit the campus’ webpage for Student Emergency Grants (HEERF III – ARP Funds) where basic information can be found and details specific for the Spring 2022 semester.

Sincerely,
Richard Yao, Ph.D.
Interim President
