March 26, 2024

Dear Students,

I want to recognize our ASI Student Government leaders, student groups, and individual students who have requested the development of more formal communication structures to ensure equitable access and opportunities for direct communication with campus leadership.

With this context in mind, I will be hosting virtual student office hours later this week. I offer the following parameters to guide our office hours discussion:

  1. These sessions are intended as opportunities to engage directly with me about broad, campus wide issues that impact students directly or indirectly. Individual level issues, while important, will be directed and addressed through established formal channels.
  2. Whether a particular office hour session is focused on updates that I provide on timely topics for the campus community or on discussion sparked through questions raised by participants, the requested norm for engagement is to build the dialogue – critiquing it, evaluating it, adding to it, and most importantly, moving it along constructively.

My March office hours for students will be held on Thursday, March 28, from 5-6 p.m. and Friday, March 29, from Noon to 1 p.m. Please register to attend via the following links:

Sincerely,
Richard Yao, Ph.D.
President
