Purpose
Channel Islands values diversity as an essential condition for achieving institutional excellence. Our University thrives on the talents drawn from a diverse workforce and believes that a climate of respect, and a commitment to equity and inclusivity allows employees to perform to their maximum potential, as such, an employee who demonstrates integrity and service to the University community shall be awarded.
This award has been created to recognize the outstanding contributions of staff members. The purpose of the President's Staff Award of Excellence is to recognize personal contributions to the CSU Channel Islands campus community.
Nominations
Any campus community member can nominate a staff member, including other staff, managers, faculty, and students. Nominations for the 2026 President's Staff Award For Excellence can be submitted at the following link: https://csuci.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_29N2ofDqjfAYBfw
The nomination letter (1-2 pages) or video (3 minutes max) should discuss one or more of the following:
- Commitment to the spirit of inclusion, diversity, accessibility, and equity
- Support for the University’s Mission Pillars
- Contributions to operational efficiency
- Commitment to CI for 2030+
- Length of service to the University (actual total years of service will be provided by Human Resources)
The deadline to submit nominations for the 2026 President's Staff Award for Excellence in June 30.
Eligibility
- Must be a non-MPP staff member, including those in Confidential classifications and
staff members
employed by an Auxiliary - Must be in a permanent appointment
- Must have been employed for 12 months at the close of the nomination window (June 30, 2026)
- Faculty, MPPs, part-time employees, and student assistants are not eligible
Review Committee
The Nomination Review Committee consists of a representative of each division for five members. Members of the Nomination Review Committee will review the nominations according to the aforementioned criteria and according to rating procedures established by the Staff Council Executive Board, before submitting finalists to the Office of the President. Award
The awardee will receive the following:
- Award of $1,000 (less applicable taxes)
- An invitation to speak at the President’s Fall 2026 Convocation
- Photo and meeting with the University President
- Acknowledgement on the Staff Council website
- A letter of award
