Honored August 21, 2020

Elizabeth (Bitten) Skartvedt’s work as the Course Reserves and Streaming Media Specialist in the Broome Library plays a significant role in promoting student equity on campus. She coordinates the library’s print reserves service which provides students with the use of textbooks on short loan, many of which some students are unable to afford and have access to otherwise. Bitten plays a hidden, yet critical role in the Open CI efforts, where she assists with utilization of library materials in some zero cost courses, furthering student equitable access to information that is integral to their learning experience.

Bitten embodies library values of free access to information, equity for all, supporting the right to learn, and encouraging lifelong learning. She is an exemplary employee who embraces the University’s mission and her commitment to student success makes a difference in the everyday lives of our students.

Ricky MedranoRicky Medrano

Honored April 4, 2019

Ricky cares deeply for our students and the university.  He is friendly, approachable, and is always willing to help with a ready smile.  He’s quick to jump in and help even when requests come from faculty outside of his designated programs. He serves as an example of hard work and perseverance to all staff and students. He is consistently on top of his duties, anticipating student and faculty needs ahead of time.

The labs are clean, the equipment is well cared for, categorized, inventoried, and stored until students need them. Instructors can now concentrate on teaching and research, instead of organizing the labs and ordering the equipment.  In addition to maintaining the Computer Science labs, he also takes time to tutor students between their classes. This is just the tip of the iceberg in terms of how much Ricky has done for the department, which is why I am deeply grateful to have Ricky as the technician and to nominate him for this award.
