Planning and implementation of official CI Staff Council events and staff recognition programs are overseen by the Staff Council Outreach & Development subcommittee. Feel free to direct any questions about upcoming or planned events to the subcommittee co-chairs.

    SUBMIT to STAFF SPOTLIGHT

  • The Staff Council Superlatives are a fun end-of-year celebration and a chance for staff to recognize the outstanding colleagues who make our workplace such a supportive, innovative, and welcoming community.

    We invite you to nominate your fellow staff for a variety of fun and meaningful categories, celebrating everything from teamwork and leadership to positivity and creativity. This is a great opportunity to highlight the people who go above and beyond and make a lasting impact on those around them.

    Nominate any non-MPP staff colleague using the link below. Be sure to include:

    • Your name and email address
    • The name of the person you are nominating
    • The category you are nominating them for
    • Nominators may also include a brief (1-2 sentences) summary of why you are nominating them, but this is not required.

    For any category receiving multiple nominees, the final recipient will be determined by an all-staff vote.Winners will receive a certificate and recognition in the June edition of theIn The LoopStaff Council newsletter.

    Nominations for the 2026 Staff Council Superlatives are open until May 22 at 11:59PM. Voting will occur May 26 and May 27, with winners announced on May 28.

    2026 Staff Council Superlative Nominations

  • The Staff Council of Cal State Channel Islands originated theTollefsonStaff Champion Award in 2025with the designation offormer Chief ofStaff and faculty member Dr. Kaia Tollefsonas the inaugural awardee.

    The purpose of the Staff Champion Award is to recognize managers and administrators for unique efforts on behalf of staff that goabove and beyondthe requirements of their positions.

    Nominations forthe Staff Champion Award shoulddemonstratehow a leader has actively supported, advocated for, and elevatedstaff contributions and staff well-being inat least three (3) ofthe followingcategories:

    • Demonstratesconsistent advocacy for staff in decision-making spacesand actively promotesstaff inclusion in division- or campus-wide initiatives
    • Providesmeaningful opportunities for staffto take on leadership roles,contribute to strategic planning, orotherwisegrow professionallyat CI
    • Contributessignificantsupport to new or existing initiatives that positivelybenefitstaff moraleorstaffprofessional development
    • Actively addressesexisting bias or inequityimpactingstaff

    Nominations should include examples or testimonials from staff that illustrate how the manager or administrator has made a tangible difference in staff morale, success, or work culture.

    Eligible recipients must be:

    • A current CI employee
    • Employed in an MPP role for a minimum of 12 months at the time of nomination

    The Staff Champion Award is usually given in the Spring. Nominations can be submitted to Staff Council by emailing materials to CI.StaffCouncil@csuci.edu. Final selection of recipients will be made by the Staff Council Executive Board.

President's Staff Award for Excellence

The President’s Staff Award for Excellence (PSAFE) was created in 2017 to recognize the outstanding contributions of staff members to the Channel Islands campus community. The award is given at the President’s Convocation at the beginning of the Academic Year and recognizes excellence in job performance, working relationships, demonstration of university values, and initiative.
