STARS Information

  • Credit Rationale: This credit recognizes institutions that have meters on all energy consumptions (including electricity, natural gas, purchased steam).
  • Environmental Benefits: An energy meter is a device that measures the amount of electrical energy consumed by a residence, business, or an electrically powered device, typically calibrating in billing units. Using meters to measure how you use electricity can help you make a better informed decision about the energy you consume and pay for.
  • Scoring: Institutions earn 0.25 points for meeting the criteria outlined above.

Energy meter

CSU Channel Islands Summary:

CSU Channel Islands has a vast number of energy meters being installed in various locations. Most the new or renovated buildings are provided with Shark-200 S electric meters for electricity. The campus will soon transition from steam to hot water use; therefore, there is no need to meter steam by building. There will be a central steam meter measuring steam flow to the overall campus. Each renovated building will have hot water flow meter and chilled water flow meter. All metered data will be gathered in a central server. Currently, CI is updating software and database design to show hourly, daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly usage numbers and comparisons.
