STARS Information:

  • Credit Rationale: This credit recognizes institutions that have inventoried their greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Environmental Benefit: Conducting a greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions inventory is an involved process that helps institutions identify sources of emissions and prioritize emissions reduction strategies. GHG emissions inventories help personalize climate discussions by creating a direct link between link between an institution’s behaviors and global warming’s. In addition, conducting an inventory can facilitate campus community learning by bringing together various campus stakeholders.
  • Scoring: Institutions earn 2 points for meeting the criteria outlined above.

CSU Channel Islands Summary:

Greenhouse Gas Emission Inventory:

The CSU Chancellor’s Office completed a Greenhouse Gas Report covering the years 1990-2006 for all campuses in the CSU system. While containing useful information, this report was limited in its scope and appears to have significant gaps in data for the CI campus.

The first comprehensive review of emissions for the campus, based on data for the 2008-2009 and 2009-2010 fiscal years, is also available.(PDF)

Why should CSU CI inventory their GHG Emissions?:

Recording emissions that our school produces will help CI asses the environmental impacts and focus on the areas that have high marks that could potentially be reduced
