STARS Information

  • Credit Rationale: This credit recognizes institutions that use motion, infrared, and/or light sensors to reduce energy usage.
  • Environmental Benefits: Because light, after all, is pure energy, CSU Channel Islands should be aware of their energy consumption and find ways to reduce its usage. Lighting sensors turn off systems when they sense that the space is not being occupied, creating a substantial saving in lighting, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems.
  • Scoring: Institutions earn 0.25 points for meeting the criteria outlined above.

Motion and occupancy sensor

CI has installed motion and occupancy sensors in several buildings, including Aliso Hall, Bell Tower, Bell Tower East, Bell Tower West, University Hall, Broome Library and Malibu Hall. These sensors are part of an energy savings retrofit program that will further decrease our usage of electricity during peak hours.
