I majored in Business Administration and minored in Economics. Graduated in 2015.

What is your job title and the name of the company where you are currently employed?

I am a marketing coordinator at Agency CHIEF located in Washington, D.C. I work specifically on the Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs contract.

What particular skills or talents are most essential to be effective in your job?

Public Speaking, Analytical Skills and Organizational tools

Why did this type of work interest you, and how did you get started?

Over the years working in various places, interacting with many people, my courses at CI and through multiple internships I honed in on my skill set and realized my true passion was within the field of marketing.

How well did your college experience prepare you for this job?

CSUCI provided me the foundation I needed to excel in my work at Agency CHIEF.

Did you complete an internship while at CI? If so, what was your position? How did the internship help you in your career development?

I did! I had various internships; however, the most notable for me was my internship with FOCUS Humanitarian where I was a Marketing Analyst intern. I learned the skills I needed to practice and gain in order to be successful in industry after graduation.

Did you utilize Career Development Services (CDS) during your time at CI? If so, please describe how engaging in programs and services (e.g., Career & Internship Fair, CI Connection Luncheon, Drop-In Career Counseling) offered through CDS contributed to your career development:

I worked with Lisa Sewell at the Career Development center to practice resume building, and networking skills. I went to as many career networking events I could including the Career & Internship Fair. The events taught me how to approach potential employers and make each conversation meaningful. The career center helped me develop the soft skills I needed to be successful.

Do you have any advice (job hunting or otherwise) for CI students?

Stay strong, stay motivated, have a plan, give yourself time to breathe, start early and talk to as many people as you can! Be confident in what you have to offer.
