Obtaining Academic Credit

An academic credit internship would be arranged between the intern (student), employer, and sponsoring faculty. The prospective intern must take the initiative to complete the steps outlined below prior to beginning their academic credit internship assignment/work:

  1. Prior to enrolling in an academic credit internship course, you have received a formal offer and accepted an internship position. You will be required to provide a copy of your internship position description to your faculty supervisor/course instructor.
  2. Prior to beginning the term, you will need to confirm that the employer/organization you will be interning with has completed and submitted the CSUCI Academic Credit Internship Agreement (PDF, 174KB) to the University's Procurement & Contract Services Office (email completed agreements to purchasing@csuci.edu).  This agreement is between the University and the employer and does not require signatures from the student or faculty. The employer will also be asked to submit copies of insurance documents. You may not begin working with the company if these steps have not been completed. For more information, visit the Employer & Alumni Resources page.

Typical steps to obtaining academic credit for your internship:

  1. Intern is offered a position by the internship supervisor.
  2. Intern identifies a faculty sponsor within their academic discipline and has the employer who is providing the internship complete the CSUCI Academic Credit Internship Agreement (PDF, 174KB).
  3. Intern and Site Supervisor (employer) complete the CSUCI Academic Credit Internship Learning Plan (PDF, 142KB). Once completed and signed, the student is responsible for submitting this document to their faculty sponsor.
  4. Intern coordinates with sponsoring faculty and internship supervisor to complete and submit all required paperwork to earn academic credit.
