Dear Students,

Recently, we have seen public demonstrations of antisemitism right here in our region. I know the reality for many Jewish people is that this is anything but new, and that routine acts of physical violence and hateful speech are enactments of the extreme bias and injustices they have faced for generations.

This is not my first message addressing these acts of hate against the Jewish community, but here we are yet again, in this familiar, deplorable space. My heart goes out to this community and to those who have family and friends who are Jewish. We must all make sure we are doing what we can to be there for our Jewish colleagues, students, friends, and families, and that we are not just standing by as these acts of aggression take their toll on our community.

CSU Channel Islands stands staunchly against any acts of violence towards anyone in our community, and we continue to want to be there to provide support to anyone that needs it. Our Title IX & Inclusion office is ready to respond to any acts of discrimination seen or experienced on our campus and at any University-sponsored event.

Let us be a campus that promotes peace, inclusion, understanding, and respect. We teach our students to be proud of themselves, to embrace their life narratives and experiences, and we know that in the face of hatred, being proud of who you are is the strongest form of resistance. Being proud of who you are is imperative to prove that we are not afraid of those who try to bring us down.

To our Jewish community, know that your CSUCI community is here for you.

If you need support, I encourage you to reach out to the resources included below:

Richard Yao, Ph.D.
