Fall 2023 and Spring 2024 First-Time Freshmen and New Transfer Students

We commend you for challenging yourself by enrolling in 15 or more units!  Many students find that they perform well academically while taking 15 units, however, we understand that the load won’t work for every student every semester.  If you would like to reduce your academic load by one class for the current semester, please meet with an Academic Advisor through Drop-In Advising or by scheduling an appointment through Navigate.

Students must meet and understand the following conditions:

  • This opportunity is only available to Fall 2023 and Spring 2024 First-Year Students and New Transfer Students in weeks 4-12 of the current semester.
    • For Fall 2023, requests will be accepted through November 13, 2023. Drop-In Advising is strongly recommended for requests close to this deadline.
  • You may not drop below 12 units.
  • You may not withdraw from required first-year courses, such as Math, English composition, or learning community courses.
  • A grade of “W” will be recorded on the student’s transcript.
  • All requests will be reviewed by an Academic Advisor to ensure restrictions are adhered to.
  • The grade of “W” is used in calculating Satisfactory Academic Process if you are a recipient of financial aid.
  • This opportunity is not available to students in Extended University degree programs.

An email will be sent to your university email address within approximately 5-7 business days telling you if your request was approved or denied.

Please follow the campus' normal withdrawal process (Add/Drop Procedures) if you are trying to do the following:

  • Drop more than one class.
  • Will drop below 12 units.
  • You wish to withdraw from a Math, English composition, or a learning community course.
  • You are not a Fall 2023 or Spring 2024 First-Year Student or New Transfer Student.

Please contact Academic Advising or the Registrar’s Office with questions.
