FAQ's

1. Can I use my in-progress coursework to fulfill admission requirements?

Yes. All admission requirements must be completed before the first term at CSUCI. Admission is considered conditional until any in-progress coursework is satisfactorily completed and documented on official transcripts.

2. How can students retrieve their Dolphin login information to access their myCI student portal?

The Dolphin login information was emailed to the address provided on the student’s admission application. If it cannot be located, students must send a request to  admissions@csuci.edu  from the same email they provided on their Cal State Apply admission application. In the email, the student must state their full legal first name, last name, and student ID number. We are unable to reply to messages sent from an email account that differs from the one the student provided when applying for admission. This is because we must validate a student’s identity before releasing confidential information about a student’s account.

3. Where does a student find their Dolphin student ID number?

Students may find their ID number on their student portal (myCI). Once in  myCI  records, click the link “Demographic Data” under personal information, and the student ID should be listed there.

4. What should a provisionally admitted students do if their schedule changes?

Unless the schedule change or final grade(s) (below a “C-“) will prevent the student from meeting all admission requirements, then they do not need to take action. Students are advised to consult their community college counselor for assistance if schedule changes occur and in selecting courses required for admission to CSUCI.

All admission requirements must be completed before the first term at CSUCI. Admission is considered conditional until any in-progress coursework is satisfactorily completed and documented on official transcripts.

5. How do I check my admission status?

Your student center is where you will find your admissions status, To-Do List, and holds. These three items are important to review after you have submitted your online undergraduate Cal State Apply application to CSU Channel Islands. (Access to the Student Center is provided 3-6 weeks after you have submitted your online application via email. The email will indicate instructions on how to set-up your myCI login account.) For further details, please visit the Admissions Status webpage.

6. Can I change my major?

During your orientation, you will be given instructions on how to change your major. Please make sure you have signed up for the orientation session that corresponds with your intended major.

7. When will students meet with an academic advisor and receive help in selecting their courses?

Students will meet with an academic advisor and be guided into classes when attending Advising and Registration during the summer.

8. What does the yellow triangle mean? When will it go away?

After you accept your provisional admission to CSUCI, a “yellow triangle” will appear in your Student Center. You can ignore the yellow triangle, but you must pay close attention to items on your To-Do list. If action is required on your part, it will be noted on the To-Do list. That list can be found on the right-hand side of your Student Center page. For further details, please visit the Admissions Status webpage.

9. May I defer my admission to a later term?

CSUCI allows students to request a deferment of their admission to the next available term. If it has been more than one term, the student will be required to complete a new application and pay the required fee. Updated transcripts are required for coursework that has been completed, or is in progress of being completed, since first being admitted to CSUCI. Students may request a one-time deferral by emailing Admissions (admissions@csuci.edu).
