So you have an Embedded Multiliteracy Tutor (EMT)...

What's an Embedded Multiliteracy Tutor?

An Embedded Multiliteracy Tutor (EMT) is a specially trained undergraduate student like yourself, here to give you feedback on any writing or multimodal (think: research poster, presentations) projects. All of our EMTs work for the Writing & Multiliteracy Center (WMC), where they have completed extensive training in writing across disciplines, giving presentations, and displaying information visually. Your EMT has been specifically assigned to your course, so they can also work as an intermediary between yourself and the professor, as they will have met with your professor and gone over assignment expectations with them. Feel free to use your Embedded Multiliteracy Tutor for questions, feedback on assignments, and brainstorming at any stage of the writing or drafting process.

How do I get help from my Embedded Multiliteracy Tutor?

one on one tutoring

  • You can sign up for a one-on-one appointment with your EMT by using the sign up sheets especially designed for your class (located in Canvas), or you can fill out an appointment request form.
  • If you have a group assignment, be sure to utilize the appointment request form to sign up as a group.
  • If your EMT is fully booked, or if their schedule does not work for you, you can make an appointment with any of our fully trained WMC tutors.
  • Looking for last minute feedback? You can also drop in and see if a tutor is available, though we always recommend making an appointment to ensure that a tutor is available to see you.

Is there anything my Embedded Multiliteracy Tutor cannot do?

Embedded Multiliteracy Tutors do not give feedback via message or email so you cannot send in your papers or projects this way. Meeting with them one-on-one in an appointment, or requesting an Asynchronous Appointment, ensures that you’re getting the most out of the tutoring session, because you can ask questions live, work through any issues as you go through the paper together, and make the edits yourself.

What other services does the WMC provide?

In addition to appointment tutoring, we offer several important resources for students, including:
